Chapter Twelve

It hadn’t taken long to lay out the segments for up-and-coming business people of Seattle. She easily had a week’s worth of subjects just with her friends. If she wanted to push this to a month-long series, she was certain she could pick everybody’s brains and come up with enough to fill twenty nights.

She pushed away from the table and stretched, working the tension from her shoulders and upper back. Though it had only taken an hour to get everything onto paper, she hadn’t moved from her hunched position the entire time. Between all the work and sex, her body was taking a beating.

Energy zipped through her. She needed to do something active that would work the kinks out of her body and clear her head. She scanned the kitchen. There wasn’t much to clean, so she put away the peanut butter and jelly and stuck the plates in the dishwasher. Would living with Linc be like this? Everything tidy, very little to pick up?

She could get used to that.

She spent another hour maintenance cleaning, vacuuming, a quick dust, straightening the bedroom, and then stood back to admire her work. That lasted about five seconds. She was still antsy.

Her gaze tracked to Chester, sitting a few yards away, staring at her. “What should we do?” His ears perked up, moving forward and then back. “How about a walk?” He stood, his tail giving two complete wags. That was the most excited she’d seen the dog. “Calm down, boy. You’re going to overexert yourself. Let me get ready.”

Her mind drifted to Linc. Though he’d only left a few hours ago, she wanted to see him. She pulled on a blue cotton skirt and a white T-shirt, and then slid her feet into a pair of black sandals. What if she took Chester for a walk by Fire Grill? If he was free, Linc could come on the walk with them. If he wasn’t, no big deal, Chester would still get his walk.

After collecting everything she’d need for the impromptu outing, she loaded Chester into her Explorer and drove to Fire Grill, parking in a lot near the restaurant. She hooked the leash onto his collar and started toward the building.

When the thought popped into her head, it had seemed like a good idea. As she closed the distance to Linc’s restaurant, though, her confidence waned. Was she being clingy, or at the very least, bothersome? Maybe he’d think she was a pest. Maybe he’d think it was sweet she made the effort.

Realizing she couldn’t out argue herself, she pulled out her phone and called him.

“Hey there.” His velvety voice rolled through the phone, and she was instantly happy she’d called. “Miss me already?”

“Maybe.” She wasn’t sure what the right answer to his question was. You wish! God yes! This overthinking thing would make her crazy if she didn’t quit it. She inhaled, giving herself a mental shake, and continued. “Chester wanted to take a walk, so we decided to see if you could join us.
